Susan Garvey became a volunteer Guardian ad Litem in 1981. She was part of the original group that started the Mecklenburg Guardian Ad Litem Advocacy Foundation in 2004. She was born in South Bend, IN and attended Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN. She is retired from the legal field after working with an Indiana law firm (often from afar) for 27years. She is still an active GAL volunteer as well as the Chair and Secretary of the Foundation. Suzy is on the Mecklenburg Child Abuse Prevention Team and the Safe House project team, a national non-profit that combats human trafficking. She has sat on many boards, councils and committees in Mecklenburg County.
Norris Anderson has over thirty years of experience in criminal investigative activities, management and supervision within the Charlotte Police Department. Before he retired in April, 2005 with the rank of Major, he was responsible for supervising and coaching eight captains and two civilian directors within the Police Department. Mr. Anderson graduated from North Carolina A&T State University in 1975 (cum laude). He obtained an MBA degree from Pfeiffer University in 2002. Dedicated to service all his life, he served in the United States Air Force from 1963-1967 and in the North Carolina Air National Guard from 1977-1996. He has been ordained an elder at McClintock Presbyterian Church, serves as a volunteer mediator with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Community Relations Dispute Settlement Program, a volunteer member of the City of Charlotte Homicide Reduction Taskforce, and as a volunteer Guardian ad Litem. Norris is committed to helping others and improving the lives of citizens.
Becky was born in and lived most of her childhood in Parkersburg, WV. She also lived in Barrington, IL and Troy, MI. She has lived in NC for 18 years.
Becky has been a GAL for 8 years, always carrying the maximum caseload. Becky mentors @Elon’s Foster Village in Charlotte, is on the Child Abuse Prevention Team and the Safe House Team for Sex Trafficking.
In her “spare” time, Becky is a Sales Rep for Norwex and babysits twice a month.

Kelsey Ellender - Treasurer
Kelsey graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in December of 2009 with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration. After graduation, Kelsey relocated to Charlotte to work as the Technology Coordinator for the Mecklenburg Guardian ad Litem Advocacy Foundation in the AmeriCorps VISTA program. Since completing her work with AmeriCorps, Kelsey has worked for Quicken Loans Mortgage Services from 2012-2017 and currently works as an RFP Proposal Specialist for Premier, Inc. She completed her Masters in Business Administration from East Carolina University in May 2016.
Casey Harvey was born and raised in Portland, OR and attended Marylhurst University. While studying for her degree in Humanities and Social Sciences, she completed internships at DHS working with children in foster care and Head Start working as a family advocate. These experiences lead to her passion of protecting children and advocating for children and their families. She went on to work as a paralegal and private investigator for 12 years before relocating to Charlotte, NC with her family in 2007. Since relocating to Charlotte, she has enjoyed her most rewarding position, stay at home mom. Casey and her husband, Jamal, are the proud parents of four daughters, ages 6 to 24. When she is not performing her duties as family law enforcer, activities director, doll doctor and tantrum negotiator, she is an active volunteer at her children’s school and with local non profit programs serving children and families. Casey joined the GAL foundation board in 2017 and coordinated the GAL Foundations first annual pajama drive that same year.
Marti was born and raised in Charleston, WV. She attended Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, IN and graduated with a BA in 1968. Marti also married husband, Bill, in 1968 and has been wife, mother, and homemaker since then. She participated in all the usual volunteer activities during the school years of her three grown children. From 1979 until 1989, with her husband, Marti was active at the State and National levels in Catholic Engaged Encounter, a weekend retreat marriage preparation program. She has been a Guardian ad Litem for 16 years. Her most recent new title: Grandmom to Patrick and Ryan!
